Wyoming UST Class A/B Operator ICC Prep Course
Wyoming requires regulated storage tank facilities to have licensed Class A and Class B operators. Operator licensing is administered by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) Storage Tank Program. Wyoming requires operators to meet state examination and licensing requirements rather than simply completing a third-party operator training course. PASS Training & Compliance’s Wyoming UST Class A/B Operator ICC Prep Course is designed to help operators prepare for the applicable International Code Council (ICC) examination. Completion of this preparatory course alone does not constitute a Wyoming Class A or Class B Storage Tank Operator License.
Why This Training Matters
Class A operators have primary responsibility for the operation and maintenance of one or more regulated storage tank systems and must be employees of the facility owner and/or operator. Class B operators are responsible for the day-to-day operation of storage tank systems and must also be employees of the facility owner and/or operator. Wyoming requires Class A and Class B operators to obtain the appropriate WDEQ license within 30 days of assuming their duties. Preparing for the applicable ICC examination helps operators develop familiarity with the regulatory and technical requirements they will need to understand for both the examination and their responsibilities at regulated facilities.
Course Coverage
This preparatory course helps operators review key storage tank concepts and regulatory topics relevant to Wyoming operator licensing, including:
Course Format & Certification
This PASS course is delivered online and is designed as an ICC examination preparation resource. Completion of the PASS preparatory course does not, by itself, issue a Wyoming Class A or Class B Storage Tank Operator License.
For a Class A Storage Tank Operator License, Wyoming requires documentary proof that the operator has passed the ICC W-6 Wyoming State Specific Storage Tank Laws examination.
For a Class B UST Operator License, Wyoming accepts the ICC BU Class B UST System Operator examination. The W-6 Wyoming State Specific Storage Tank Laws examination may also be used in lieu of the applicable Class B UST and/or AST examinations as provided by Wyoming regulations.
Class A and Class B operators must obtain their licenses from WDEQ within 30 days of assuming their duties. Examination documentation submitted for licensing must show that the applicable examination was passed within the five years preceding the license application. Wyoming Class A and Class B operator licenses are renewed every five years.
Wyoming may also require retraining following specified compliance violations. When required, the Class B operator must take and pass the W-6 Wyoming State Specific Storage Tank Laws examination within 30 days of the Notice of Violation.
Who Should Take This
This preparatory course is intended for individuals preparing to become licensed Class A operators, Class B UST operators, or individuals seeking knowledge applicable to combined Class A/B responsibilities at regulated storage tank facilities in Wyoming. This may include facility owners and operators, area managers, facility managers, environmental compliance personnel, maintenance supervisors, and other employees responsible for storage tank operation, maintenance, or regulatory compliance.
Please note: PASS course completion does not constitute a Wyoming Class A or Class B Storage Tank Operator License
In Wyoming, UST System Operators can only be certified after taking and passing the exam administered by the International Code Council (ICC) through Pearson VUE testing centers. Preparing for the ICC exam(s) is a three-step process.
Step One: Take the PASS ICC Preparatory Course
Step Two: Find the Exam You Need and Prepare Your Reference Materials
First, read the information for your state’s exam provided in the ICC Exam Catalog. That is where you can find the number of exam questions, the exam fee, type of exam, and the list of reference materials. Make sure to note if your exam is online or in person.
Step Three: Schedule Your Exams
ICC exams are offered periodically at Pearson VUE testing centers around your state. When you are ready, you can purchase your exam directly from the ICC course catalog. Once purchased, you will be able to schedule your exam through Pearson VUE. Learn more at www.pearsonvue.com/icc/cert.
You can find the permitted reference materials in the ICC Exam Catalog or in the UST Exam References and Renewal Information. (This document can also be found in the Exam Catalog under the info section.) They typically include the federal and state UST regulations (which usually can be found on the state UST program’s website), as well as some publications from the EPA. The Wyoming ICC exam allows you to bring the following materials, available for download here or through a PASS ICC prep course. Publications from the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) must be purchased through PEI’s online store. The ICC sometimes bundles of all the reference materials for sale in their online store.
Remember, you can only bring the approved reference materials with you into the exam if they are prepared correctly. If you do not follow these steps, the Pearson Vue test center personnel will not let you take your materials into the exam room and you will not be able to use them during the exam.
