Oregon UST Class A/B Operator Training
Oregon’s underground storage tank operator-training requirements are administered by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). For official requirements, training options, and operator resources, visit the Oregon DEQ UST System Operator Training Program website (https://www.oregon.gov/deq/tanks/pages/ust-training.aspx).
Why This Training Matters
Oregon requires every regulated UST facility to employ trained Class A, Class B, and Class C operators. Class A operators have primary responsibility for UST operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance, while Class B operators have daily responsibility for operating and maintaining UST systems.
This training helps operators:
• Understand their responsibilities under Oregon UST regulations
• Properly operate and maintain UST systems
• Recognize and respond to alarms, spills, and suspected releases
• Maintain required training and compliance records
• Protect public health, property, and Oregon’s environment
Under the current OAR 340-150-0210, newly designated Class A and Class B operators must complete an approved training option within 30 days of designation. Operators at a facility that fails a UST compliance inspection must generally complete retraining within 30 days unless DEQ waives the requirement.
